Installation Instructions
For Leading Edge Light Boxes
1. Locate the light box hole jig that was placed in one of the packages. Place the jig over the leading edge of the
wing and mark where the hole will go with a permanent marker. The hole should be centered between two nose
ribs. Cut out the hole with a jig saw or cut-off wheel. It’s not mandatory but it’s a lot easier if you’ll use one of the
bays that has an inspection hole in it.
2. Now run a 16 gauge wire from the hole you just cut, through the leading edge ribs, back to the right or left side
of the cockpit side skin. Leave plenty extra wire at both ends so you can work without restriction. Most aircraft will
already have wires run through the ribs to secure the new wire to. Use small tie wraps to hold the new wire. This is
to prevent the wire from rubbing on a nose rib.
3. Make a small 16 gauge ground wire about 24 inches long and attach one end to a nose rib or other ground
source at the wing tip.
4. Insert light box into hole in wing and make sure that it doesn’t bind on anything. You may have to trim the hole a
little to get a good fit. With the light box pushed in as far as possible, drill the six 3/16 attach holes in the leading
edge skin. Make sure none of the electrical wires are in the way.
5. Pull light box out and attach both wires to the light bulb and slip unit back into the wing.
6. Using the supplied screws and nuts, attach light box to leading edge. There may be some places where the
light box doesn’t meet the leading edge skin due to bird strikes or ??? Seal the entire box to the wing with clear
silicone and squirt a little extra in those low places.
7. Attach the flashing unit to the side of the cockpit side wall. Make sure that you put it in a place that doesn’t
interfere with the recessed foot step. Refer to wire schematic and attach wires accordingly.
8. Install toggle switch on instrument panel. Supply power to switch from buss with 14gauge wire. Wire protection
needs to be 20 amp circuit breaker or fuse. Refer to wiring diagram for rest of wire hook-up.
9. Secure all wiring.
10. With the toggle switch in the center position the light are Off. The other two positions are On and Flash.
11. Turn the lights on with aircraft facing hangar door or something to aim lights at. Be careful, these 250 watt
lights are bright. Adjust lights with 3/16 inch allen wrench. Caution against over tightening adjuster screws. We
set the lights before they are shipped so they should be close.
12. Remove protective cover from lens. Sometimes there is a sticky glue that sticks to the lens that can be
removed with dish washing liquid or var sol. Don’t use acetone or thinner. Next, install clear lens and seal with a
little clear silicone.
